Hi, we are a Dutch couple living in China (Shanghai) and will visit Gansu and Sichuan province in January. We will arrive in Langmusi on the 27th. We know it will be very cold and that it's low season, but hopefully the hotel and caf?are open. Do you have any information? Also we would like to organize any kind of day-trip (hiking or riding) that you offer during winter. Is this possible? Best wishes, Chris

Hello, me and my friend are travelling to China and intend to go to Langmusi in late september. We are trying to discover how we go from the Langzhou airport directly to Langmusi. Our idea is "Experience NomadicLife - 2 day's Trail". After that, we intend to go do Jiuzhaigou. Is it easy to get there from Langmusi? Thank you, Clara
Hi!
I asked earlier about the Home God Festival, but I made a mistake. We cannot arrive until the 15th, so don't worry about my previous question. Instead, we would be interested to take a 2 day hiking / riding tour to the Namo Gorge and Huagai Mountain the 16th or the 17th. If it is possible to see anything from the festival the 16th that would of course be interesting too.
We are a Swedish-Spanish couple arriving, planning to arrive the 15th in the afternoon from Xiahe.

Do you know if we can get a bus from Songpan to Langmusi? We will be staying in Chengdu in May and then hope to travel north to Langmusi and on to Lanzhou. Some websites have said that the road is currently closed to foreigners and others say it's fine.
Thanks in advance for your help!

For now, the road from Songpan to Langmusi is closed to foreigners by police. I don't know when it will be open again.
Now the forgeigners only can get Langmusi from Lanzhou. And from Langmusi is ok to go to the south by car.

Hello, I also sent an e-mail but didn't get a reply yet so I'm not sure if it arrived. This summer we want to make a 2-day horseriding trip. But one of us has a length of 1.88m and a weight of 88 kg, will this be too big for the horses? Thank you.

For the 88kg man, he can take 2 horses for riding in turns. We have big enough horse for him, but just it's too tired for one horse carrying a big guy for a whole day. So he need to take 2 horses. The cost of him will be 400yuan more for 2days.

Has Langmusi been affected by the flooding? If so, we hope that your town and community were not badly damaged. If you were not affected by the flooding, are you still running horse treks in September? If so, is it best to try to get to Langmusi from the north because of the flooding in Sichuan, or is it equally problematic from Lanzhou? We are interested in a horse trek, but trying to understand what/where we can go in the overall area because of the flood and flood damage, and to make sure we aren't getting in the way during recovery efforts.

There is no flood in Langmusi. We still do horse trek in September. The best way to get here is from Lanzhou. This way hasn't been affected by any flood.

I just like to leave a few comments for fellow visitors.
Had a wonderful time during the 1 night stay at the nomad's tent (2 weeks ago). The large expanse of grassland was very beautiful, especially during sunset. The first day on horseback was a very memorable highlight of my Sichuan/Gansu trip. =)
Looking at the deteriorating state of Tagong Grassland, hopefully Langmusi will not be spoilt in the same manner by the influx of visitors.
If anyone is looking for an authentic experience, I would strongly recommend Langmusi over Tagong or Songpan.

Ossy

In Xiahe there are two popular hostel. Their names are "Bao Ma Hotel" and "Hua Qiao Hotel". In Langmusi you can stay in Langmusi Hotel. But I'm not very sure how much will the double room cost. Maybe around 150yuan per night.
In August most days will be sunny. But still cold in the night and morning. So you need prepare for a long sleeve T-shirt, a thin sweater, a thick sweater and a thick jacket. If you don't have, in Langmusi there is a place where people rent very warm Tibetan Clothes.
If it's raining in Langmusi, normally it will be just a little rain and won't last for a few days.

Hi,
I am with my wife is going to langmusi to have horse trekking for 2-3 days (grassland). We have no much time so need your advice to make a plan.
We are flying from urumqi on August 10, 2007 to langzhou with morning flight. We are palnning to take the latest bus to Xiahe (14.30) and look around there.
We are keen to join your horse trekking on the next day. So probably will take taxi early in the morning to langmusi. Is it possible? Where can we meet someone to hire taxi in xiahe? how much? Is it possible to directly join your trip?
I am keen to take a 3 days trip rather than the 2 days. So if we can not join as we planned, it seems that we could join only for 2 days trip. We plan to take flight from lanzhou to kunming on august 15 or 16.
Waiting for your advice
Thank you
Ossy

Could you tell me your weight first? That will be very helpful for me or organize the horses for you, because for the people who is around or more than 100kg, we don't have big enough horse.
And the only way to let me keep the horses for you without paying it in my office one day before is you put the money on my account. So if you can send me an email, that will be great.
On the Xiahe street, there are many taxies, like mini bus. So you can just ask them. Normally the cost will be 350yuan for a whole taxi to go to Langmusi from Xiahe.

we (couple with son of 6 1/2, living in Beijing) plan to travel from Xining to Chengdu over langmusi in August. May be we want to drive our own Jeep - so my 1st question: Will there be 97 fuell abvailable on that road or only 93? - 2nd: we would like to try horse trekking, but what about our son? he can't ride - anyone to assist him? (holding horse or sit with him)
Reply:
Only 93 fuel is abvailable here. For your son, our guide can hold the horse for him or riding the same horse with him, we can finger that out when I see him.

Hello! I am interested in going on 3 day tour of the grasslands by horse. I would be arriving tomorrow. There may be four of us interested in it. I was wondering if you had any space available for July 18th. Thanks. Shannon
Reply:
yes, for 18th 3day trekking, it's still available now. So tomorrow 17th before 2:00p.m, you must visit my office in langmusi to pay for your trip. Otherwise, after 2:00p.m, I won't keep the horses and guides for you.

I'm travelling on my own and plan to arrive to Gansu from Xi'an on July 10. I'm interested in the route passing Xiahe, then Langmusi then on to Songpan or Jiuzhaigou. Of course, it would be better to join a group for cost and fun factors. Will there be a group to join?
Reply:
Sorry, I don't have any group. I only do trekking in Langmusi.

Found your website in the Lonely Planet guide.
There are three of us, 1 American and 2 Chinese. We are trying to choose between horse trekking adventures 2, 3 & 4 Red Stone, Experience Nomadlife, Pass Gehesu Grassland. My friends have never ridden horses before and are a little concerned. About how much time is in the saddle for each of the three trips I mentioned.?
Very cool website.

Thank you for your last words. Each day, you will spend around 5 hours on the horse back. All the horses are very quiet and first day before departure, I will teach my guests how to ridding. So they needn't worry about no experience on horse back.

Hi, my wife and I are looking to travel through Langmusi from Xiahe to Songpan in late June, 2007. We are interested in some horsetreks, particularly to see nomadic Tibetan life, including sheep shearing, if it's not too late. However, my wife will be three months pregnant, so we will be avoiding higher altitudes, preferring to stay less than 3000meters. What options can you recommend? Do you have any groups planned around June 23rd, for example. Thanks,Jay
Reply:
Sorry, we can't let pregnant woman take horse trekking. It's too jouncing for her on the horse back. So if you really very want to experience nomadic life, maybe I can organize a motor to send you to the grassland. Anyway, we can have a talk at my office, when you arrive Langmusi.
For shearing sheep, it will last for around half a month. So maybe you can meet one. But for the altitude, it must be higher than 3300m. Until now, I don't have a group at late June.

You mentioned on your website that it's possible to hire a taxi from Langmusi to Jiuzhai Gou directly. How much is that? I'm a solo traveller so I think that may be a small problem in terms of costs, but I thought I'd ask.
Also, is it possible to tell you when I may be interested in doing a trek, and joining other groups if there are others on that day?
Thanks
Reply:
The mini bus will cost 800yuan from Langmusi to Jiuzhaigou directly. You can put 6 people inside. So when you arrive here, you can tell me which date you will go to Jiuzhaigou. I can try to find some other one to sharing the taxi with you. Also for the trek, if there are some others will do the trek and if they don't mind you join in them, sure you can join in.

Hello,
two friends of mine and I will be in Langmusi the 3rd, 4th and 5th of May. We are very interested in your Horse Trekking activities and especially in the "Experience Nomad Life" one.
Do we have to book in advance or it would be ok if we just arrive the 2d to join you the 3rd and 4th?
Thank you for your answer.
Hope to see you next week.
Best regards,
Emilie

One more question. We will have some luggage that is larger than we would want to take on the overnight trek. Is there somewhere we can leave it for the night?
Reply:
You can leave them in my office or leave them in the hostel you stay. The hotel won't ask you money for keeping the luggage. They will be happy to do this, because that means after the trekking you will be back to the hotel.

We want to do an overnight trek but are not sure when we will be arriving in Langmusi. It will probably be near the end of May. Do we need reservations or can we just show up? How do we find your company once we arrive? Let me know.
Thanks
Reply:
You just need book the horse trek one day before. That means you can book it when you arrive Langmusi. There are just two streets in Langmusi. When you arrive here, you will find it's very easy to find my office.

Hello there,
Finally found a way to talk to langmusi :D
In fact we were 5 guys who stayed at langmusi hotel in august 2005 and we really liked the people there a lot, but infortunately we lost the contacts everyone gave us during the rest of our travels.
They nicknamed us niamaka and lingwo maybe they remember us.
I want to send the photos we took with them and the cute lili.
So if you have the address of the langmusi hotel it would be
so great !! So we could mail those photos directly to them.
Thank you so much
And everyone who is reading this, we traveled for one month in north china and langmusi is simply the place we prefered,
superb sceneries, nicest people, and beautiful festival at the temple !!!

We came in May. Our guide was Calsong and we slept in his hotel. We made a trekk for one day with you (we went and saw nomads). You told us that you put the moovies of this day on the web, but perhaps it is too late now. We were fortee adults. I don't remember exactly the date (it was between 15 an 20 may).
Thanks for your answer. Bye
Reply:
The moive is traditional, not digital. So we can't make it on the computer, when we are always in Langmusi. But we will back to Chengdu in the winter, very soon. Then we will make it on the computer.
I'm sorry for letting you waiting for a so long time. I will try to do it as soon as possible.

Hi there
My husband and I are interested in possibly doing a 7 day trip.
Can you tell me if we can organise alternative trek routes that can take in different sites?
Thanks in advance for your response.
Yonnie
Reply:
yes, I can organise a special 7 days' trek for you. In the 7days, you can ride along river, climb the highest mountain in this area, pass through a valley and see broad grassland etc.
But for this trip, you must book that 3day before, so you'd better contact me on Messenger
lms-trekking@hotmail.com or send email to liyi@langmusi.net.

You can take a train from Xian to Lanzhou. In Lanzhou, there are many bus to Langmusi, but not directly. For the details, you can check here http://www.langmusi.net/web_e/tips/tip.asp#4
And the cost for horse trekking in September is 120yuan per person each day. But this is for 2 persons or more than 2. If you are just one, the cost will be 150yuan for each day.

Thank you for your response. Just one more question - what's the weather like at this time of the year? Is it the rainy season? And if so, does it rain everyday? half the week? I know you're not a weather forecaster but any sort of idea would help.
thanks,
Yonnie
Reply:
yes,it's the raining season. But that doesn't means it will rain everyday. In these days, it will be easy to have a short heavy rain in the afternoon. But for the horse trekking, we provide professional raincoats.

Hi there
I'm interested in doing a trek with you in late July. Could you please
let me know what the 120 kuai price includes? Are there any extra fees? And how far do I need to book in advance?
thanks,
Yonnie
Reply:
120yuan is for each day each person. That include your guide, your horse, your food. And if you do the horse trekking more than one day, that also include your sleeping. On the trek, there is no extra fee, no entrance fee. but if you are alone to do the horse trekking(one person), the cost for each day will be 150yuan. If you are two or more than two person, the cost will be 120yuan for each day each person.
You need book the trek one day before the day you want to start horse trekking. And book it in my office, not on internet.

I want to come during the holiday week. How much does a 2 day or 3day cost per person? Are you already full? Will there be sheep shearing in the first week of May?
