Climbing Huagai Mountain - Passing Through Namo Gorge 2 day's trail

First Day
(You can choose riding or hiking.)

At 10:00am, we will leave Langmusi to go along the White Dragon River and have lunch at the river spring. After lunch, we will continue the trek. At approximately 3:00pm, we can arrive at a large grassland.
Tonight, we will sleep there in a tent with local people.
(From late April to early June, we will spend the night at the source area of the White Dragon River; from the middle June to late August, we will sleep at the foot of Mt. Huagai; from early September to early November, we will sleep in The Ocean of Flower.)

Second Day (Riding to the foot of Mt.Huagai or totally hiking.)

In this morning, we will have enough time to see the local people’s life, such as herding, milking, making butter… And if you are interested, you can have a try for yourself. After these activities, we will start to climbing Huagai Sacred Mountain. It’s the highest mountain in this area. The hillside is a little steep but full of grass, so it’s easy to climb. After a 2 hour hike we will reach the summit.
Then from the summit, we walk a little down to the mountainside, crossing the ridge, we continue down to the bottom of the Namo Gorge. After passing through the Namo Gorge, we MUST pass through the Monastery to reach Langmusi.

Highlights:

* You can experience nomadic life for yourself;
* You will climb the highest mountain in this area;
* You will pass through a beautiful gorge;
* You can see many small animals on the way.

Notes:

*From late April to early June, we will spend the night at the source area of the White Dragon River; we can get there on the first day noontime, then in the afternoon we will visit the Xiu're valley. Second day we will spend around 8 hours on walking;
From middle June to late August, the tent where we will spend night is near Huagai Mountain, so the first day we need walk around 5 hours, second day around 6 hours;
from September to early November, the tent is a little further away, so the first day around 6 hours walking, second day around 9 hours;
* On the summit of Huagai Mountain, it's 4200m. So please be aware that to undertake this trek that you will need to be physically fit and you may still be affected by the altitude;
* Although it is summer, the weather can be very cold on the grasslands, and it is wise to be prepared. * For the nights spent in the nomad tents there are no beds. We provide sleeping bags, and generally a light padding is placed on the bare earth of the tent, under the sleeping bag. There are no showers or private washing facilities. The nomads tent is made of yak hair and it is not waterproof. If it rains during the night, we will put a plastic cover on top of the tent to stop the rain. But if we meet terrible weather with strong winds, it is likely the rain will come inside the tent. The guide will try his best to keep the tent dry, but you need prepared for any bad situation. The trip we offer is a genuine experience trip.

We offer:

Before you start the trip, you will be given a handbook at the horse trekking office. This contains information about nomads, like daily life, seasonal activities, such as shearing sheep, moving ,mowing and festivals. We will also give you a translation paper with some useful sentences in English, Chinese and Tibetan.
On the trail, you will have local guides and we will organize a friendly nomad family for you to stay with. The guides know everything about the area and know the nomads very well. So everything you want to try on the trip, if it is safe, the guides can help you.
