Climb Mt. Huagai Passing Ocean of Flowers
- 2 Day Hiking

Spring Summer

In spring(from late April to early July), we will spend the night at the source area of The White Dragon River. We will arrive around noon, and in the afternoon we can climb the mountain at the river source. On day 2, hiking will take around 8 hours.

Day 1

We set out from Langmusi at 10 a.m. along the White Dragon River and have lunch at its spring. After lunch we continue trekking and by 4 pm, reach a vast grassland where sheep and yaks graze. On this night, we will sleep in a yak hair tent with local people.

The flowers of dandelion have already covered the ground in late May.

After arriving at camp, we take the halter and saddle off the horses and learn how to make a fire with yak dung as well as how to use a special Tibetan herding tool called a “pe.” We join our host family in driving the animals home and tying the yaks up for the night.

Gathering the dry Yak Dung

In the night, the calves need to be tied up seperately from their mothers to make sure they can't drink the milk, and the humans will be able to milk the next morning.

Day 2

In early morning, the nomads are busy with their routine: milking, collecting yak dung, churning butter, etc. If you like you can experience and partake in these activities for yourself.

After these activities, we will start to climb (by foot) 'Mt.Huagai' which is the highest mountain in this area. The hillside is a little steep but full of grass, so is easy to climb. After a 2 hour hike we will reach the summit.

After a short break on the summit, we will come down the mountain the same way. We will then go to pass through the 'Ocean of Flowers,' to reach 'The Red Stone Forest.' We will pass by here to get to the nearest highway to take the car back to Langmusi.

We were helping to spread out the yak dung to dry it under sunshine.
